Rusty Quailified 14 for this weeks race at Pocono. Sterling Marlin took the pole for the first time since 96. A great run for Sterling. The final practice results show rusty as 17th in the field. Practice times sometimes do not reflect how the cars will perform in the race, all sorts of testing goes on during practice looking for better setups or to see how the car runs on worn tires, etc.
June 13 1999
Dale Jarrett wins at Michagan with Jeff Gordon finishing second. Rusty Wallace, who qualified 13 in the Miller Lite taurus, finished 12th, Just one spot up from where he started. The race ran caution free and turned out to be another fuel mileage race. Rusty Wallace was not able to pit any later than 47 laps forcing him to make a fourth pit stop near the end of the race, putting him an additional lap down. It was a good run for Rusty, he stayed in the top ten all day.
June 11 1999
Jeff Gordon grabbed the pole at Michagan. Rusty Wallace qualified 13 in the Miller Lite taurus. Practice results to date show Rusty 7th fastest. That puts Rusty a full 2 tenths down from the fastest in practice, Jeff Burton. Rusty has won four times at this track.
In other News, Dale Earnhardt won his third IROC race of the season, making him the IROC champion of 1999 with still one more IROC race to run. Dale Jr. was literally only a few inches from the finish line at race end with Rusty Wallace a very close third.
June 6 1999
In a race with only four cautions the Miller Lite Ford Taurus finished a respectable 6th place. Rusty stayed in the top ten most of the day, getting as close as second to the front but unable to keep up with several of the other cars. Unofficial results show only the two cars of Bobby Labonte and Jeff Gordon finishing in the lead lap. Labonte did not have to pit having an advantage in fuel mileage over the rest of the field. Jeff Gordon came in for a splash and go and was able to finish at the tale end of the lap some 22 seconds behind Labonte. Six other teams finished one lap down. Those teams included, in finishing order Mark Martin in the Valvoline/Cummins Ford, Tony Stewart in the Home Depot Pontiac, Dale Jarrett in the Quality Care/Ford Credit Ford, Rusty Wallace driver of the #2 Miller Lite Ford, Johnny Benson in the Cheerios Ford and then Jeff Burton in the Exide Ford.
Rusty's brother Kenny Wallace had been running well on the lead lap for a good part of the race was bounced off the outside retaining wall into Jeremy Mayfield, taking himself out of the race.
Unofficial points standings show Rusty Wallace 8th in points. Moving up one position. Dale Jarrett Maintains his lead in the points, Jeff Burton remains second with Bobby Labonte third an Mark Martin fourth. The rookie, Tony Stewart having an amazing year is fifth in points. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt swapped positions making Gordon 6th and Earnhardt 7th with Rusty Wallace now in 8th. Ninth and tenth are Ward Burton and Terry Labonte, respectively.
Bobby Tracey, gasman and truck driver for the #2 Miller Lite Team , was injured on his left ankle during a pitstop. Tracey was reported to have been hit by an air gun and a lug nut that that ended up under the tire and was thrown out when Rusty was leaving the pits. Tracey was reported to have a hairline fracture.
June 5 1999
Rusty qualified 8th this week for the race at Dover. Bobby Labonte grabbed the pole again this week. Bobby is doing a great job this year. Rusty is now 9th in the points.
Rusty will be driving with a new paint scheme this weekend. Harley Davidson emblems will be painted on the side of the #2 Miller Lite Ford. The new paint scheme is part of promotional program with Miller Brewing Co and Harley Davidson. All three cars sponsored by Miller will carry the Harley Davidson paint scheme.
