May 30 1999   The Coca Cola 600 was not Rusty's Race this year, even though he has won it before. Definitely did not have the car to beat. Rusty finished 31st after an incident with Geff Bodine. Bodine was on the inside with Rusty on the outside both racing for position. Jeff Burton who was leading the race was about to lap both of them. Bodine got a loose and went into a spin hit Rusty sending him into a spin as well. Needless to say they both ended up getting lapped after that. Rusty sustained some damage to both the front and rear of the car. The pit crew did a good job of patching up the car and got Rusty back out on the track with new tires and plenty of tape.  The car the Miller Lite team was using here was, I believe the one they ran at Bristol. Since the primary car was wrecked in the Winston the decision was made to use Banker, as it was named, referring to the high banks at Bristol Speedway.   Bodine spun again later in the race hitting the wall. Rusty was able to stay in the race and finished 31st ahead of Jeff Gordon but behind all the point leaders. Rusty is now ninth in points.   Other notable events in the race included Jeff Gordon loosing a power steering pump. Gordon waited in the pits for 50 laps or more to get repairs taking him out of contention. Jeff is now 8th in points. It seems there may be a end to the incredible good luck and flawlessly that has blessed this team for the last few years.   Steve Park ran a great race, leading some laps and staying ahead of some pretty fast cars for a time but was involved in a crash while leading the race.   May 30 1999 Rusty co hosted Saturdays Busch race which Mark Martin won. Did a great job. Nice to see and hear him in the spot light, so to speak. After the Race he also hosted some of the Winston Cup happy hour practice session. Practice results showed Tony Stewart fastest. Rusty reported that he as not as fast as he would like but was content with the way the car was set up. This week the car used will be one called banker, banker won the Bristol Race this year. Banker was a special car especially built for the short high banked tracks like Bristol. May 29 1999 Well here it is the line up for the Coca Cola 600. Not a good showing for Rusty. Starting 19th. Practice times showed Rusty at 14th. See the line up here.   May 22 1999 Well it was wild ride in the first segment of the Winston although it did settle down after the first segment. Officially 7 cars were knocked out of the race due to two major accidents. First caution was early due to rain but lasted only a few moments. Rusty seemed to be having some trouble on the restarts and fell back a couple positions here.  The first accident, although at first was hard to discern the cause due to camera angles, appeared to be some contact between Dale Jarrett and Bobby Hamilton. Bobby appeared to just touch the back of Jarret car sending him into a spin which took Jarrett out of the Race. Hamilton would go on to finish one lap down. This fortunately, all happened behind Rusty. The second accident, the third caution, happened on the restart of the race from the previous accident. The old adage that caution flags breed caution flags certainly proved true in this event. What appeared to happen in this case, based on what could be seen and what was later reported seemed to involved two separate incidents. Bobby Labonte had motor failure on the restart and was unable to get going fast enough. Everyone behind Bobby stacked right up, Martin tapped him, Rusty was right behind Martin slowing up. Meanwhile, on the outside lane, Ernie Irvan got loose and spun out coming down across the track wrecking a number of cars. And yes you may have guessed, Rusty Wallace's number 2 Miller Lite Ford was one of the casualties. Mark Martin later attributed Irvans' spin to poor track clean up after the first caution. 	May 21 1999 Qualification results:   This year qualifying consists of 3 laps with a mandatory pit stop after lap one or two. Pit road speeds are not restricted, drivers can come in at full speed.   Bobby Labonte, who was third on the race track, made a strong run with an absolutely perfect pit stop grabbed the pole at the start. Darrell Waltrip's team was fined 3 seconds for a pit stop error. Jeremy Mayfield's right front tire changer drops a lug nut and stretched the pit stop time out to nearly 12 seconds. Ricky Rudd, who along with Dale Earnhardt, has run in every Winston, spins as he was leaving pit road. Ward Burton missed his pit stop and was not able to post a time. 	May 15 1999 Rusty qualified 6th for this weeks race at Richmond. A very wet weekend in Richmond. Lot's of postponements because of rain. May 2 1999 California Speedway, owned by Roger Penske, is a 2 mile oval track with nearly 75 feet wide all the way around. But alas it was not a good track for Rusty today as he finished a mere 11th, losing a couple positions in the point standings. It's going to be a tough year for Rusty if things don't improve soon. All the top runners are running a tad better than Rusty. He is now tied for 7th spot in points with Terry Labonte.
